One of the biggest benefits we offer our NTHS Alumni who have upgraded their memberships to Premium Alumni is the opportunity to apply for two scholarship programs we’ve created especially for them, the C. Allen Powell Alumni Scholarship, and the NTHS/GEICO Alumni Scholarship.

The application period for the C. Allen Powell Alumni Scholarship will re-open in the next few months on January 1st. But right now, NTHS Premium Alumni have the opportunity to apply for our scholarship with our partners at GEICO. This year they’re awarding a total of $8,000 in scholarships (Two $1,000 scholarships every quarter!) to our Premium Alumni members. Their generous support helps our alumni continue to build their career skills, and mitigate the cost of seeking higher education.

Meet Matthew

Even as a child, Matthew Page loved to disassemble his toys and even small electronic devices, just so he could see how they worked on the inside. With his love for figuring out and understanding how things function, it really just made sense for him to choose a career in engineering. After high school, Matthew chose to attend at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, MD, where he’s currently beginning his second year.

Matthew is grateful for his CTE-based high school experience, where he not only got to compete (and win first place!) in a SkillsUSA competition during his sophomore year, but where he also completed an internship at Becker Morgan Group, a full service architecture, engineering, surveying, land planning, and interior design firm.

“During my time at Becker Morgan, I was so proficient in the tasks that were given to me that my mentor had a hard time finding other assignments to keep me busy.” This internship helped further his interest in a career in engineering, and Matthew is proud to have already earned his certifications in Autodesk Inventor, a computer-aided design application for 3D mechanical design, simulation, visualization, and documentation, as well as Revit, and Fusion 360 too.

In fact, Matthew is so eager to learn and create new things that he’s also currently teaching himself leather making, as well as Blender, an open source 3D creation software program that aids in modeling, animation, simulation, rendering and more.

“[CTE] gives you an early head start in your chosen field of interest… It helps students who are not sure if they want to go straight into college or into the workforce after graduating from high school.”

In July, Matthew was named as one of the fortunate recipients of the Summer NTHS/GEICO Alumni Scholarship. He’s grateful these funds helped go toward his tuition as he continues to seek a career in engineering. “It took a lot of financial burden off of my mom.”

We’re so proud of Matthew, and happy to support him as he moves forward towards a successful, skilled, and creative career!

*NOTE: If you are a 2020 graduate, your membership benefits have been extended, and you still qualify to apply for our scholarship programs for active members. Allen Powell Alumni Scholarship and the GEICO Alumni Scholarship.
