The St. Croix Educational Complex auditorium was filled with pride and excitement on Thursday as 37 students from the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) for the 2023-2024 school year. The ceremony, which brought together families, friends, and the wider school community, honored the achievements of students excelling in career and technical education (CTE) fields.
The induction ceremony highlighted the core values of NTHS through a meaningful candlelight ritual. Students learned about the significance of the society’s emblem, colors, motto, and slogan. One of the newly inducted officers, Eriana Rivera, beautifully explained the meaning behind NTHS’s colors: “Silver represents value at work, white represents truth and honesty, and purple represents achievement of honor.”
The mission of NTHS is to celebrate student achievement and leadership in CTE, promote educational excellence, and enhance career opportunities. As these 37 students were inducted, they joined a distinguished group of students nationwide who are dedicated to advancing these values.
Genevieve Whitaker, a former senator and member of the Board of Career and Technical Education, delivered words of inspiration to the inductees. She emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “Your commitment to excellence in your chosen fields not only speaks volumes about your education, but also serves as a testament to the transforming power of education.”
Deputy Superintendent Karen Chancellor closed the ceremony with empowering remarks, noting, “These students are not only honor students, but they are the ones who
have chosen to embrace the honor society way of life. You are role models and mentors for your peers and other youth coming after you. Always find ways to give back to your community because you were created intentionally and for a purpose.”
The National Technical Honor Society, founded in 1984, was created to recognize and elevate the accomplishments of outstanding CTE students. Over the years, it has continued to honor student excellence, foster leadership, and inspire future generations to pursue meaningful careers in technical fields.
With the 2023-2024 induction, the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center has proudly added 37 more names to the NTHS roster, marking the beginning of a bright future for these talented students. Congratulations to all the new inductees!
