Walnut High School’s NTHS chapter has created a culture of recognition that celebrates student achievement, promotes Career and Technical Education, and strengthens connections between students, families, and the community. Through meaningful ceremonies, school-wide celebrations, and consistent promotion of CTE accomplishments, the chapter has transformed recognition activities into powerful opportunities that spotlight student success and inspire future leaders.

Led by advisor Kristine Nodarse-Hernandez, the chapter hosted an induction ceremony that not only welcomed new members into the National Technical Honor Society, but also created a memorable experience for students and their families. During the ceremony, officers shared the history, values, and expectations of NTHS before officially presenting certificates to new members on stage. Family and friends were invited to celebrate alongside inductees, creating a moment of pride and recognition for each student’s hard work and dedication.

The chapter continued its recognition efforts throughout the school year with an end-of-year closing ceremony that honored scholarship recipients, graduating seniors, and incoming officers. This event gave students an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments, celebrate leadership transitions, and recognize the contributions of members who helped strengthen the chapter throughout the year.

Walnut High School’s NTHS chapter also found creative ways to recognize students beyond formal ceremonies. One standout initiative was Senior Decision Day, where graduating seniors proudly wore apparel representing the colleges, trade schools, or military branches they planned to attend after graduation. Students gathered for photos with peers, celebrating both their achievements and the exciting next steps in their journeys.

In addition to recognizing NTHS members, the chapter actively promoted Career and Technical Education programs and student organizations through social media and school events. Their platforms highlighted CTE pathways, career opportunities, and student accomplishments within organizations such as FBLA, HOSA, and SkillsUSA. The chapter celebrated students advancing to inland, state, and national competitions while also helping other students explore the wide range of opportunities available through CTE.

Through these efforts, Walnut High School’s NTHS chapter demonstrated how recognition can go far beyond awards and ceremonies. Their activities created visibility for student achievement, encouraged school pride, and introduced more students to the value of Career and Technical Education. By consistently celebrating accomplishments and promoting opportunities, the chapter helped foster a supportive environment where students feel seen, encouraged, and inspired to pursue their goals.

Walnut High School’s chapter is an outstanding example of how NTHS chapters can take recognition activities and turn them into meaningful experiences that elevate students, programs, and school communities. Chapters across the country are encouraged to explore creative ways to recognize their members and promote CTE excellence, and to share those success stories through the Chapter Highlights Form so we can continue celebrating the incredible work happening in NTHS chapters nationwide.
