How to Take Your NTHS Membership Further

Consider Becoming a Leader!

NTHS is more than membership; it’s a chance to be part of an organization where you can create a lasting impact. That impact can be on your school, your community, and on yourself. We encourage you to be more than "just a name on the membership roster." With NTHS, membership is only the beginning; the real reward is the chance to influence, lead, and make a difference that endures. Active leadership supports a stronger chapter, raises the profile of career and technical education, and inspires future members to get involved.

How Do I Become an NTHS Leader?

  • Get Started – Talk with your chapter advisor about your interest in leadership. They can share what positions or opportunities are currently available.
  • Officer Positions - Generally chapters have roles like: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian/Reporter. If your chapter does not have formal officer roles yet, you can work with your advisor to help establish these. Taking on one of these roles can help build confidence, enhance teamwork, and develop career-ready skills that will benefit you long after graduation.

  • Other Leadership Opportunities - Aside from officer positions, there are numerous other opportunities to engage in chapter leadership. You can chair or serve on a committee. Help organize your induction ceremony.  Volunteer to organize a service project or school event (with advisor approval). Mentor new members and help them get involved.

  • Chapter Awards Program - You can also help showcase your chapter’s hard work in each of our Core 4 Objectives to help earn your chapter national recognition. Helping guide initiatives in career development, leadership development, service and recognition not only supports chapter growth, but your leadership development as well.

Why It’s Worth It - Build a stronger chapter, enhance your resume, increase scholarship opportunities, develop leadership skills, and make an impact. Your journey with NTHS can be the spark that lights the way for others; so step forward, lead boldly, and leave a legacy that lasts.

  • Interview strategies and scholarship tips
  • Life skills and public speaking
  • Real-world advice from a former journalist who’s been there

Students don’t log in to Emerge directly, but your advisor can use these lessons in class or chapter meetings to help you build your employability skills. If you’re interested, ask your advisor about using Emerge with your chapter!

Chapter Highlight: Green Hope High School NTHS Shines Through Service and Community Impact

The Green Hope High School chapter of the National Technical Honor Society has taken the NTHS Core Four Objectives and the Chapter Awards Program guidelines to heart, transforming them into meaningful service that makes a real difference in their school and community.

This year, the chapter continued its tradition of giving back through its involvement with Letters for Rose, a student-led initiative designed to combat loneliness among senior citizens. Members created more than 225 handwritten, personalized letters filled with kindness and encouragement, which were delivered to the Searstone retirement community. The effort brought joy to residents and strengthened students’ understanding of the power of service.

The chapter also supported its own Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers through a unique volunteer program. Each NTHS member committed at least one hour per semester to assist a CTE teacher of their choice. What began as classroom support evolved into tutoring sessions during SMART Lunch, giving students the opportunity to help their peers succeed while also building stronger connections within the school community.

By combining compassion with creativity, Green Hope NTHS demonstrated how service can be both impactful and deeply personal. Their work reflects the very best of the NTHS Core Four Objectives: Career Development, Leadership, Service, and Recognition.

We applaud Green Hope High School NTHS for their outstanding efforts and for showing how chapters can live out the Core Four in ways that inspire others.
