NTHS Honor Roll: Ellen Machado
Ellen Machado has been a career and technical education teacher at Northwest Cabarrus High School in North Carolina for over 30 years. She got involved in NTHS three years ago and is excited about what it can do for her students.
“Our county (Cabarrus County) has created a meaningful awards ceremony in which every high school attends and the newly inducted NTHS students are recognized and awarded their portfolios and cords that they will wear at graduation. We invite their families, our school board, and other county-level members so that these students truly feel recognized for their hard work during high school.”
The Northwest Cabarrus chapter encourages students to participate in community service as much as possible. Students volunteer at VEX competitions, donate to nursing homes and local food banks, engage with younger students on Read Across America Day, and many other activities. Mrs. Machado believes that is just one way her CTE students can get ahead.
