Looking Back to Lead Forward

Turning Reflection into Action for the New Year

As we turn the calendar to a new year, it’s a powerful moment to reflect on the growth within your chapter and set fresh goals for the months ahead. January is the perfect time to renew momentum - whether that means launching a new service project, strengthening member leadership roles, or starting your Chapter Awards application.

  • How can you increase student leadership or member engagement in the new year?

  • What is one goal your chapter can set for January to build on this semester's success?
  • What new opportunity, career exploration, or partnership will you introduce next semester?

Career Pathway Spotlight - STEM

STEM is everywhere this time of year! From the chemistry behind our favorite winter treats to the engineering that keeps holiday lights glowing, STEM helps power the season in ways students can see, touch, and taste.

Festive STEM Ideas for Your Chapter:

  • The Science of Hot Cocoa: Experiment with temperatures, dissolving rates, or creating the perfect hot chocolate recipe using real chemistry.
  • Gingerbread Engineering: Build and test gingerbread structures for strength, height, or earthquake resistance.
  • Holiday Tech Projects: Try designing a simple coded light show or creating a 3D-printed ornament.

STEM projects are a fun way to show students that innovation isn’t just in labs - it’s woven into the magic of the season. Let curiosity (and maybe a little powdered sugar) lead the way!

Outstanding Service through Community Commitment

Michigan's St. Clair County Technical Education Center's NTHS chapter has once again shown what it looks like to take the Core Four Objectives and turn them into meaningful action. Their service work demonstrates a deep commitment to community needs, student leadership, and the spirit of giving that defines an exceptional NTHS chapter.

Two major service efforts stood out last year for their impact and student engagement: participation in the Port Huron Kiwanis Club Polar Bear Plunge and volunteering as official Salvation Army Bell Ringers. Each project showed the chapter’s ability to unite students, staff, and the community through purpose-driven service.

The Polar Bear Plunge brought more than 200 students and staff together to brave the icy waters of Lake Huron during a winter snowstorm, all to support the Kiwanis Club’s efforts to help children and families in need. The chapter’s presence was both impressive and inspiring, with their team raising a remarkable $4,367.24.

This also made them the #1 fundraising team for the 7th year in a row! Their involvement reflects intentional planning, collaboration, and a clear understanding   READ MORE>>
