NTHS in Department of Defense Schools
Military children follow their parents around the world as they serve our country, and the Department of Defense works hard to make their experiences as similar as possible to those of teenagers in the United States. One of those experiences includes the opportunity to be part of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) in American high schools overseas, such as those in Germany and Japan.
The new members of the Ernest J. King Chapter in Japan were recently featured in Stars and Stripes, the American newspaper that serves military communities around the world.

April is the Month of the Military Child, and we’re proud to recognize our NTHS members attending high schools both domestically and abroad. Sponsored by the Department of Defense’s Military Community and Family Policy, this month is dedicated to honoring military families and celebrating the resilience of their children, who face unique challenges and make daily sacrifices.
Thank you for serving our country and being a part of NTHS!

Keep Your Members Connected
Use a Non-School Email
When registering students, we strongly encourage the use of a personal email address rather than a school-issued one.
Why does this matter? Some emails may be blocked due to your school’s incoming server security settings. This can prevent members from receiving important NTHS updates- specifically scholarship paperwork if they are chosen as a recipient.
Once a student is registered in the national NTHS database, they are a member for life. Six months after their graduation date, their status automatically transitions to Alumni, giving them access to even more resources and recognition. Using a personal email ensures your members can access alumni benefits, or verification documents down the road.
If you have questions or need help updating an email address, our is happy to help!

April Honor Roll: Duke Wallin
Duke Wallin has dedicated over 26 years to education, specializing in career exploration, planning, and Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Since joining First Flight High School in January 2021, Duke has taken pride in helping students explore fulfilling career paths and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce.
“Our school’s namesake, First Flight, and our location directly across from the Wright Brothers Memorial—site of the first powered flight—gave us the opportunity to start an aviation program at the school,” he shared.
“Students are currently building an RV-12 aircraft and will have the chance to fly in it at the end of the year. The National Park Service, Chamber of Commerce, and the wider community have supported our efforts by providing mentorship, program resources, and a shared enthusiasm—not only for aviation, but also for our other CTE programs, which include Culinary Arts, Carpentry, Adobe Graphic Design, Computer Science, Health Science, Business and Marketing, and Work-Based Learning.”

2025 NTHS Scholarship Application Windows
Don’t Wait, Register Your Members Today!
Advisors, if you haven’t registered your NTHS members yet, now is the time... literally!
Several major scholarship deadlines are fast approaching: • FBLA, HOSA, and SkillsUSA Scholarships all close TODAY (April 15)! • The Jon H. Poteat Scholarship, our most popular scholarship, closes May 1.
To be eligible and to have access to apply for scholarships, students must be registered members in the national NTHS database before the deadline. That means registering your students as soon as possible, preferably today, gives them the best chance to apply and be considered.
Help your students access these incredible opportunities. Don’t let a late registration deadline keep them from applying!
