Brad Rothell has been in education for 34 years, and began serving as an NTHS advisor 7 years ago at Swofford Career Center in South Carolina. If that school sounds familiar that's because it's the location of the very first NTHS chapter!
Brad believes that CTE provides a strong foundation that all students can take advantage of and that NTHS helps honor those students! As the NTHS advisor for Chapter #1, Brad makes sure that his students are aware that our organization can trace its roots back to Swofford Career Center!
"EVERY student could benefit from CTE programs."

Test your knowledge of CTE History with this month's edition of Two Truths & a Lie.
If you don't already know the rules, all you have to do is read the three statements and decide which one YOU think is the lie. The answer will be at the bottom of the eNews.
- The first federal legislation
supporting vocational education was in 1917.
- WBL, FACS, STC, BOEA, and AAVC
are all widely-used educational acronyms related to
Career & Technical Education.
- The graduation rate of CTE concentrators (students who complete a pathway in a CTE program area) in secondary education is 10% higher than the national overall graduation rate.

TWO
TRUTHS & A LIE ANSWER: 2 is the lie!
- The first federal legislation supporting vocational education was in 1917. - TRUTH - This was the Smith-Hughes National Vocational Act
- WBL, FACS, STC, BOEA, and AAVC are all widely-used educational acronyms related to Career & Technical Education. - LIE - We just made up
BOEA ... "bored of educational acronyms". The other 4
are real though! WBL =
Work-Based Learning, FACS =
Family & Consumer Science, STC = School-to-Career, and AAVC = Arts, A/V Tech & Communications
- The graduation rate of CTE concentrators (students who complete a pathway in a CTE program area) in secondary education is 10% higher than the national overall graduation rate. - TRUTH - Data here, 2018
